The definition of self-development

Defining Development.

The definition of self-development is "The individuals who develop the knowledge, skills and their abilities through the efforts directed by themselves." From the definition it is clear that these approaches reflect the principles of participation and independence. How self-development approach implicitly incorporate important features of learning autonomy embodied in the creation of self-reliance, responsibility, and courage to take risks.




Process Development
Apply self-development requires individuals to consider and answer three important questions. The answers do not be definitive, even in fact the answer is often more tentative than certain. For most people, it is advantageous because flexibility is important. The questions are:

• Where's my present?This requires some personal analysis to create a sense of satisfaction or dissatisfaction over the results achieved so far. The analysis should focus on identifying areas of strengths and weaknesses in relation to the practice or ability.
• Where do I want to be?Answering these questions should provide indications on the areas of performance which will be tilled. That answer should also include the formulation of learning goals, target completion time, the decision on the methods to be used and identify the resources available and needed.
• How will I monitor the progress?To monitor changes and developments, it takes appropriate measures. A system and timescales for regular review should be developed.

• Observations of the questionsPerhaps the most difficult question is the first, especially in analyzing themselves, because often times it is something new for most individuals. This analysis focused on performance and task completion. A focus on personal aspirations and career can also be included.

Some methods of self development.
In addition to formal methods such as courses and training programs, there are various methods that can be used and regulated by the individual. The most common method used is:
 
• ObservationOne can begin to learn a lot just from observing the behavior of others. As an example of interpersonal skills is an area where the observed ability of an effective negotiator will be very useful. Observation targets can be started from managers, peers and subordinates, subordinates the individual.
• ReflectionThis method refers to the thinking and analyzing the results of observation. It also includes reflections on the behavior, performance and the main reasons of the individual. This is an important aspect of self development.
• Reading GuideReading text books, journals, and articles are an easy way to increase knowledge. Ask for advice from someone more experienced will be very helpful in saving time, money and effort. Like for example if we have difficulty in controlling finance, the advice an accountant must be a reference, in addition to reading about finance.
 
• Visits / bondUsing a day or two days to observe and hold talks with staff in personnel, marketing, or finance will increase their knowledge of these functions as well as an understanding of their contribution.
• Seeking FeedbackSeeking feedback is important in the process of learning and personal development, particularly in skills development, although this method is slightly more risky. The feedback can also be used to monitor individual progress. One thing that is important in this method is to choose the feedback targets carefully.
• Seeking ChallengesIf individuals are not confident with his ability, he will avoid such activities. But this can not be allowed to continue if the individual does not want his development stunted. For that other efforts to more frequently involved in such activities. If supported by the preparation, for example, through reading the guide, and with performance analysis, this method will be the most appropriate method for self-development, such as giving presentations and chairing meetings.
